The work of the members of the Association made it possible to retrace six generations of our ancestors.
Several books have been published and we are continuing our genealogical research.
We even offer a genealogical help service.

Our first five generations

FIRST GENERATION
Jehan Dumoys was a ropesman in Autretôt in 1555. Elseôt is a small village in Normandy and a weaving center in addition to being a home of Norman Protestantism.
It is the country of Caux, a chalky plateau in Upper Normandy. The name of Caux comes from a Celtic tribe, “the caletes” present before the Romans. The inhabitants are called Cauchois, which was also an important language of the Norman language.
In the Middle Ages, the country of Caux had been colonized by the Vikings.
Jehan marries Marguerite Berservoyse in Autretôt. They had a daughter Marie in 1556 and then two sons, Jehan who married Elisabeth Henze in 1596 and Adrien who married Catherine Pougnye in 1594.

SECOND GENERATION
Adrien Dumoys and Catherine Pougnye married in Ettouteville not far from Autretôt in 1594. They have a son Jehan who was allegedly born in 1595. He will become the father of our ancestors who will come to New France.

THIRD GENERATION
Jehan Dumay was born around 1595 in France. He lived in Dieppe. He married Miotte Lecombe in his first marriage with whom he had a son:
• Etienne was born around 1618 in Dieppe.
Jehan Dumay married in second marriage Barbe Mauger, with whom he had four children:

• Catherine, born on May 5, 1629 in Dieppe.

THE PRESENCE OF JEHAN DUMAYS IN NEW FRANCE
It was in Dieppe in 1643 that Jehan Dumay and his sons Etienne, André and Jean embarked for New France. Catherine and Laurent will still remain in France.
Jehan’s presence is noted during a contract to purchase land bought in 1645 on the Côte de Beaupré that he left in 1646. On January 1, 1648, he signed as a witness on his son Etienne’s marriage contract in Quebec City.
Jehan obtained a concession of 50 acres in Cap Rouge in the Seigneurie de Gaudarville but he abandoned this concession in 1650 to return permanently to France after installing his sons.

*Jean was born on February 6, 1633 in Dieppe. He went through New France with his father and two brothers. Being the youngest of Jehan Dumay’s sons, he is waiting for the opportunity to go to Ville Marie. On November 9, 1654 Jean married Jeanne Védie, in Ville Marie (Montreal.) She had arrived with the Great Recruit of 1653.
Jean is a neighbor of his brother André at the Saint-Pierre River The danger posed by the Iroquois made him flee to Quebec City at the end of 1662 with his wife and his first three children. Jean was granted a concession on the Côte de Lauzon in 1666 and then he had a stone house built in Quebec City on Rue du Cul-de-Sac in 1689. Jean died on July 3, 1708.
